Number 1 With a Bullet... Danny Eslick takes the #1

AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series

It didn't come without a fair amount of drama and grit, but Ruthless Racing/Trev Deeley Motorcycles' Danny Eslick ultimately came through to win the 2014 AMA Pro Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series title.

Eslick came into the weekend needing just a seventh place or better to assure himself the crown, but a major crash in this morning's qualifying session put his participation in doubt.

His team rebuilt the motorcycle in time for Eslick to hurriedly take the grid from the back row, from where the beaten and bruised Oklahoman battled his way forward.

He crossed the line in sixth at the checkered flag to become the Series' first two-time champion.

"I ran off the track and wadded it up in the wet grass this morning and pretty much destroyed that motorcycle," Eslick said. "The Trev Deeley/Ruthless Racing team busted their butts from the time I crashed the motorcycle until the moments before the race. We were pretty close to not making it.

"I've ridden it three seasons now and that's the first time I've crashed it. It's bound to happen and the way these guys are riding - they're riding incredibly. The level that this Vance & Hines Harley-Davidson Series has risen to is unbelievable. I used to be able to play around and sandbag a little bit and still have a shot at it, but now you really have to be on your game and work on your set up. Hats off to everybody out there."

Barber Update

HOLLAND, Mich. (June 24, 2014) – After a blistering hot weekend at Barber Motorsports Park under the new two-day format, Riders Discount Triumph edges closer to the top spot in the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike Championship.  Thanks to some hard work by the crew and a little luck, Danny Eslick is now just 12 points behind Jake Gagne going into Laguna Seca where Eslick won last time he raced the GoPro Daytona SportBike class.

“I believe we had a solid bike but with the lack of testing it put us in a difficult position,” said Brian Gibson, Riders Discount Triumph team owner.  “With the short two-day format we were chasing our tails.  But all and all we came out of the weekend only 12 points out of the championship lead instead of 22 and we have to look at that as a success.  The next round is at Laguna Seca where we have some data from 2013 when we raced with both Joey Pascarella and Jake Zemke, so that should help us hit the ground running a little faster than when we arrived at Barber.”

“This was the first time we've done the two day schedule for a race weekend and I think this was definitely not my weekend and things weren't going properly,” said Riders Discount Triumph rider, Danny Eslick.  “We started the day yesterday behind the 8-ball and whenever you have limited track time and limited qualifying, it’s hard to make up time.  We were stuck in seventh, or eighth place in race one, but luckily we had a couple guys go off in front of us finishing fifth, and sixth overall in race two.  After coming into this race 22 points down in the championship and leaving only 12 back, it’s not a terrible weekend.  We’ll chalk it up as a completed weekend.  We didn’t tear anything up, and we’ll move to Laguna and go get us a win.”

The FIM Superbike World Championship, GEICO Motorcycle U.S. Round at Laguna Seca is July 11-13.

Riders Discount Triumph heads to Barber Motorsports Park

HOLLAND, Mich. (June 19, 2014) -- After a promising finish at Road America, the Riders Discount Triumph team heads to scenic Barber Motorsports Park in Birmingham, Alabama for the first two-day event weekend of the 2014 AMA Pro Road Racing season.

“I’m ready for the Triumph SuperBike Classic weekend,” Danny Eslick said.  “Coming off a win in Brazil, my confidence is high and I’m ready to get back to the front and race for a win.”

“Barber should be an interesting round with the new two day format,” said Brian Gibson, Riders Discount Triumph team owner.  “I believe Saturday we have Q1, Q2 and Race 1.  Then on Sunday we have a morning warm up, and Race 2.  No rest for the wicked as they say and the Riders Discount Triumph team should be ready for the challenge.  Hopefully we can leave Barber with two strong finishes to help catch us back up to that number one spot after our crash at Road America.”

Eslick is currently 2nd in the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike Championship behind Jake Gagne.  Eslick came away with a win and a second place finish the last time he raced in the AMA Pro Daytona SportBike class at Barber Motorsports Park.

Danny Eslick Wins Daytona 200 For Riders Discount Triumph

Daytona Beach, Florida (March 17, 2014) – Danny Eslick won the 73rd Daytona 200 in dominating fashion aboard the #69 Riders Discount Triumph 675R. This is the first time Triumph has won the prestigious event since Gary Nixon in 1967. This year is the last year the middleweight class will be competing in the long race before returning to the sprint format next year, and “Danny Eslick” will be the last name on the list of winners for the foreseeable future.
Danny's race could not have started in a better position after winning pole, earning himself a second Rolex Daytona Cosmograph watch. Danny led 44 of 57 laps with two flawless pit stops performed by the Riders Discount Triumph crew allowing Danny to maintain his lead.
The last stint started with a margin of 2 seconds over second place rider Jake Gagne, increasing to over 10 seconds by the finish all the while waving to the fans, spurring the bike like a horse, and riding wheelies in classic Danny form. The victory lap saw a stop at a Danny Eslick fan club bus where he briefly celebrated before returning to the bike and proceeded to do rolling burnouts and ride wheelies along the banks of Daytona.
"Hats off to the crew. (Crew chief) Richard Stanboli is the guy I worked with like ten years ago in my first year in the AMA. So in a big, roundabout way, this is payback for that first year," said Eslick. "It's awesome. I've gotten the pole before and, my very first 200, I got fourth. So there's been a lot of hard work and a lot of years passed by to get this victory. It really means a lot. There's been a lot going on at home, losing people close to me. This one is for Tommy Aquinoand some good friends from home. So it means a lot.”
Brian Gibson, Team Owner:
"To win the Daytona 200 at the start of only our 2nd AMA Pro Racing season is just incredible. I can't thank Danny and the entire crew enough. These guys have been burning the midnight oil for 6 weeks getting everything prepared and Danny capped off the effort by performing flawlessly. A huge shout out to all of our sponsors for believing in our program and also I want to thank all the fans of Danny and Riders Discount that cheered us to victory!"

Daytona 200 Victory

DAYTONA BEACH, Fla. (March 15, 2014) - Danny Eslick's return to the AMA Pro GoPro Daytona SportBike class couldn't have been more spectacular. The native of Broken Arrow, OK, and a two-time series champ won pole and then outlasted the competition to take the 73rd Daytona 200. Eslick, aboard a Riders Discount Racing Triumph, won Triumph's first Daytona 200 since 1967 by 10.975 seconds.

"That was a lot of fun. That first stint was pretty incredible. We were knockdown, drag-out like it was a sprint race. Even after the pit stop, me and Dane (Westby) and (Jason) DiSalvo hooked up and that was a lot of fun. The last stint seemed like forever, but that was literally like the shortest 200 miles of my life."

Eslick's ride survived a serious challenge along the way, but "Slick" had cleared away by the end. One of the most spectacular riders in the field avoided the pitfalls of 200 miles at Daytona International Speedway. The last few laps were classic Danny histrionics like waving to the crowd, spurring his bike like a horse, and riding wheelies, even while he expanded his lead. Then Eslick topped it off with the longest victory lap ever, one that saw him stop to celebrate with fans in the infield.

This one is forTommy Aquino and some good friends from home. So it means a lot.

For Triumph, the British brand capitalized on their last chance to win Daytona for the immediate future with the Daytona 675. Next year, the class returns to the parlance of the SuperBike class. "It's been what? Since 1971 since they were on pole and (Gary) Nixon was the last one to win it," said Eslick. "That's pretty cool right there."
